The new Fujifilm instax SHARE Smartphone Printer SP-1 is a portable Wi-Fi-enabled printer that can create instant credit-card-sized instax prints using photos from your smartphone. When set up, the printer serves as its own Wi-Fi hotspot and can connect to Android and iOS mobile devices using Fujifilm's Instax Share app to handle printing in a straightforward and seamless manner.

Printing can be controlled within the app, giving way to image resizing, cropping, applying filters, using different color schemes, and making use of a variety of pre-defined templates to give additional contextual information to your prints. The overall printing time takes approximately 16 seconds once the chosen image has been received by the printer and, using two CR2 lithium batteries as its power source, the printer can produce about 100 prints per fully charged set of batteries.

While perhaps missing a step by not making this printer directly compatible with their own Wi-Fi-enabled FinePix and X-series cameras, or even memory cards alone, Fujifilm is certainly playing into the ever-increasing realm of smartphone photography and augmenting this school with the coexistent cultural fascination of instant printing technologies of yesteryear.

The new Fujifilm instax SHARE Smartphone Printer SP-1 is due to ship in April of 2014.
